What is the best way to start writing lyrics?

I really appreciate the chance to answer readers questions. One think I believe is helpful is many questions are never asked. Since that never are asked there is no opportunity to answer them. That is why I like reader questions. Many times the question asked could be the one that will help you with your songwriting efforts.

Always have a specific purpose in mind before you begin writing a song. You need to be clear and focus on what your song’s purpose is.  Is the song about an issue you have great passion?  Is it about a relationship?  Is it about a specific event? Know this before you begin. (more…)

    Here’s a quick list of deadlines (that are not self-imposed) that you will run into as your career develops. 1) The Publisher’s Deadline; 2) a Movie Deadline, and 3) an Album Deadline. While all of these deadlines are somewhat self-explanatory, remember that when they say ‘the deadline is thus-and-such a dateÉ’ they mean it, so get it done and get it submitted on time.
