Assignable volume slider and edit mode for accessing advanced functions.

    Pitch and assignable modulation wheel.

    49-Note, Synth-Action Keyboard
The KeyStudio keeps things simple with a 49-note keyboard and basic controls. Use the octave up and down buttons to hit higher and lower notes, and the pitch bend and modulation wheels for added expression.

    Get Started Instantly
The Keystudio will install instantly on Mac OS X computers--just plug and play. Of course, it works great on Windows machines too.

Powered by the USB port on your computer, the Keystudio makes a perfect controller for GarageBand, Logic or other music applications.

    Assignable Functions
You can easily set up the KeyStudio to work the way you want. You can assign the modulation wheel and volume slider for convenient control of functions like volume, pan or portamento (for just a few examples).

The assignable octave +/- buttons can be set to adjust octave shift, program change, bank MSB, transpose, Bank LSB, or MIDI channel change settings.

The "edit mode" button allows you to control advanced functions via the keys themselves, changing anything from octave to bank or program info.

    Easy Connections
Because the Keystudio is powered by your computer's USB bus, all you need for connection and power is the included USB cable.

You can also add a standard sustain pedal for more piano-like expression, using the quarter-inch input on the back of the keyboard.

I purchased this keyboard to practice while at my computer desk (I have a virtual piano)...it's very light and I just lift it in place from where I'm sat. The instructions that came with it are for GarageBand, which I don't use, so the pitch bend, edit and modulation are useless for me. It is certainly Plug & Play...must have taken all of 5 minutes to set up and play. My one real complaint are the keys...the spacing of the black keys is narrower (or there is not enough angle on the keys) than my real piano, and it is easy to catch another key by mistake...hence 3 stars.
Shipping was excellent. For less than $100 it is good value.

Okay Look a couple disgruntled customers gave bad reviews about a product that does exactly what it's advertisements claim. 49 keys check, non-weighted keys;check, play 4 octives whithout using octive shift;check, pitch bend;check, modulation;check, assignable midi;check. Plug and Play, no driver installation needed with most every DAW not just Garage Band or Mac Products. Those people don't know what they are talkin about or what kind of equipment they are looking for frankly. I use a Sony Vaio with Windows Vista 64 bit, my DAW is FL Studio. It works fine. No, it doesn't make any sounds unless you have a program that it can communicate with, then there is no sound that is known to man that it want make for you, if only you now how to instruct it. It's not the keyboard's fault if you don't know how to use it. This keyboard is more for people who are into music production and have not progressed far enough or have not decided that they want to invest a couple of grand in a more serious keyboard, it's absolutely worth a [...] bucks. My advise to the lady is that if hubby doesn't know how to make his own melodies and background music, then just get him a toy Casio keyboard he'll love that. The only thing I would complain about is that the keys are not weighted, but I know that when I bought, it's a work around though. You just have to get used to the sensitivity, it would be nice if you could manually adjust the sensitivity setting to your personal touch. Good Keyboard not Great. There are no great keyboards @ [...] bucks!

waisted a week waiting for the product and 3 hours going back and forth between windows driver downloads and M-audio driver downloads. There is no sound even though my computer and speakers are working on all other applications. A key studio keyboard driver isn't available on M-audio's download website. Product will be sent back and I'm writing the firms that invest in M-audio a letter and writing Amazon a letter. The device is clearly made for MAC and the assertions made by M-audio that XP drivers will work are exagerations. I've put more effort into this product trying to make it work than the cost of it.

I really want to like this beautiful little keyboard.

Unfortunately, it has been plagued with defectivitis. I received it and at first everything seemed fine. The top 9 keys were not working, but I initially attributed this to a driver issue. After a few days, the whole set of keys stopped working - all 49 of them.

I use fruity loops for my sequencing software, and I could see that the keyboard was still transmitting the MIDI signal for the pitch and modulation wheels. The LEDS were still lit too. However, the keys did not show any sign of transmitting MIDI and I got to Googling the issue.

It seems that this is a fairly common problem. I am not informed enough to say this is a huge issue for this model, but there was definitely quite a few people across the net having the same problems.

I have called Amazon and they have concurred that these are signs of a defective product. I am now blessed with the errand of packing this little beauty up and huffing it down to the most (not) local UPS to have it shipped back for a refund.

Now I wonder - do I take my chance with this model again, or should I look elsewhere??

I had read reviews of several different keyboards and was a little skeptical about purchasing this particular model. I made the decision to purchase it on the basis of the price and feeling fairly assured it would work with the computer that I have. I was right! It was a plug-n-play keyboard. I had no issues hooking it up to my iMac and using it with the FInale PrintMusic program. It is small enough that I can put it right on the table where my iMac is located but it is big enough to include all the notes/keys that I need. I am very pleased with the purchase.

Ordered this, Totally happy with the product, except the USB cable wasnt it the box. When I contacted M-Audio and told them, they never replied. Guess they didn't care. So tack on $20 for a USB cable if it doesn't show up and you go a great keyboard.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for me but...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 12, 2013
Product does what it promises. For 50 quid when I got it about 10 days ago,it was an awesome bargain, hence the 5 stars BUT...
for the current price of 75 quid...no!There are other bundles even from m-audio -the keyrig 49-(same company as keystudio)at the same price
but with a software product to play with.
This bundle is just the keyboard, manual(no use) and usb cable. There is no software. So you either need to own one or intend to buy one.
Luckily I own music recording software. It's perfect for me.

Also ,and this is important, this keyboard is the keystudio 49 and NOT the 49i as stated in the product description.
This one(keystudio 49) is NOT a stand alone keyboard with a built in audio interface. You will need a PC to use it.The stand alone is the keyrig 49i which is more expensive.
