What Do Want To Learn Most About Songwriting?

  • Songwriter Tip:

The most basic system for divvying up the writer’s credits is the honor system. In the honor system, everyone in the room when the song is written is told tight there on the spot exactly what their portion of the proceeds will be. While the most common split in a two way collaboration is 50/50, it is not unusual to see some splits of 60/40 or 70/30. In a larger songwriting team, you will see some splits that are not at all even (60/53/15, etc.) Try to avoid fractions that will make the accountants job a nightmare, and be certain that all of your splits add up to 100%. Don’t laugh. It has been known to happen.
