There is an art to songwriting. Every form of art requires a process. A process helps you succeed as a songwriter. To help you improve I’ve complied this songwriting challenge. Go though each step. The ideas presented here provide a basic framework for you to start a new song. Most of the steps presented below were generated from the various songwriting tools available on this web site.     One thing you need to be careful of is employing tricks like the unusual interval, the odd chord substitution, the unexpected note, etc. is that if the lyric doesn’t support them, they will stand out as an artificial device. You want to use these devices to give the song the WOW instead of raising the eyebrow of the listener. In other words, don’t write with a crowbar, write with a scalpel.
